A day in the life of a bee: Bee by Zoologist

What does a honeycomb smell like?

The first, instinctive answer for that question is obvious: honey.

Unfortunately, it’s the wrong answer. Honey is stored in small cells sealed with beeswax, that will be opened when the honey will be mature, and when there will be flower shortage. Honey is bees’ emergency food.

So, if we could enter an honeycomb, we would not only feel mesmerized by the hexagonal pattern of the beehive, but also our nose would be hit by a strong beeswax smell.

This whimsical smell is the main character in the fragrance Bee, by Zoologist. It feels like following a bee in her own habitat, like a very detailed olfactory documentary on a bee’s life.

Our main character’s life is fully dedicated to his family and small society, where everything is implicitly coordinated.

His work day starts with a long and exhausting exploration in the woods. We smell pines’ resin and a bright, subtle note of bergamot, like a light beam that goes through leaves. Then, our small friend lands on a flower and we feel a sweet pollen note. The same pollen that he’ll bring on other flowers and in his nest.

At the end of the day, tired and covered in sweet pollen powder, he’ll come back home.

At this moment we get to the core of the fragrance, where beeswax absolute reigns the stage with some slight musky notes.

Probably, we would never directly know what does a beehive smell like, but we can imagine it’s smell thanks to Cristiano Canali’s piece of art.
