Abyssae by L’artisan parfumeur is a part of “La botanique” fragrance lineup, a line whose bottles are inspired by old raw materials containers. They’re really aesthetic.
Their creator is Daphné Bugey, one of the most important french noses of our time. She also made three fragrances for Penhaligon’s, including my beloved “Much ado about the duke”.
Her style is very elegant, she creates fragrances that I’d wear for a walk on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
Now, let’s talk about Abyssae’s story.
Abyssae feels like freediving in warm, tropical shallow waters.
It opens with a refreshing eucalyptus note, that reminds me of the first meters of an immersion, where water starts getting a bit colder. This balsamic and green note gets way colder and darker along with the fragrance evolution, which means we’re close to the bottom of the sea.
On the bottom we see red and blue corals, soft yellow sponges and colorful bright tropical fishes.
This amazing landscape is painted with a clean note of damask rose and soft woody cashmeran, that represent the vibrant biodiversity of tropical waters, and also the feeling of amazement we experience underwater.
When our underwater journey ends, we come back to our ordinary life.
But with a new perspective on a fascinating hidden world.
